I am Monica, an herbalist, nature lover and mother of a wonderfully curious 9 year old boy. I have been studying herbs for about 6 years after feeling frustrated with modern medicine. I have been very close to the plant world and nature since I was a child. I would spend hours in the woods behind my house and at my grandma's farm so that deep connection to nature is ingrained in me.
My herbal training comes from interning at an apothecary called Essential Elements Apothecary in Portland, OR. I also glean my herbal information from various teachers around town who have classes, herb walks and conferences, as well as daily self study. I love attending local herb gatherings to glean information as well. I am almost finished with a program I am in with Cascade Andersen Geller. It has been an amazing experience I must say. I lead donation based study groups focusing on one plant in each session. I also helped build a spiral herb garden at the apothecary and hold learning garden workparties every few months. If you are in Portland, contact me and I would love to show you around the garden!
I have a magnificent organic garden that I pour a lot of time and energy into. My focus in my garden are vegetables, fruits as well as many medicinal and culinary herbs. Daily I access the bounty that awaits me, even in the dead of winter I can still harvest from my winter garden. I also love to go out into nature to relax, hike and reflect. I ethically wild craft many of the medicinal and edible plants growing in the abundance of the Pacific Northwest’s forests. I ask the plants if I can take them for medicine and I listen to what the tell me.
I just started a shop on poppyswap called Wild Moon Herbs. I try to focus as much as I can on homegrown, locally grown and wildcrafted plants. I find medicines are so much more potent when one spends time from seed to harvest to medicine. I enjoy sharing information about healing ailments with herbs and I hope that I can connect with many of you on this journey towards health and wellness. Blessings!
