Hiya!
I learned about Poppy Swap from a wonderful herbalist and photographer, Darcey Blue of Blue Turtle Botanicals and Floralia, and I'm excited to be part of this growing online community.
I started Worts + Cunning Apothecary to provide quality, handmade, and full of enchantment herbal products to the larger community beyond my immediate friends and family. I'm currently based in Austin, TX but I'm always moving around the country. I'm a certified herbalist in a constant process of learning from my community in all of its various manifestations - plants, friends, family, lovers, animals, and creatures undefined. The foundation of my work is the recognition that the sacred resides beyond, between, and within all of us. When I'm not making a new brew, potion or charm, I'm riding around town on my bike, Raven Rae, making short films, running around the soccer field, mucking around my small urban garden or whatever else catches my attention.
The long-term vision of Worts + Cunning Apothecary is to help create with other health practioners a sliding-scale health cooperative. My partner is a midwife-in-training and we've got a community of acupuncturists, bodyworkers, activists, accountants, and magickmakers that we're working with to make bring our shared vision to full fruition. It is good, hard work.
What else? For the curious (since I always like to know!) Worts + Cunning Apothecary got its name from the old Anglo-Saxon word "wortcunning" which is the art (occult) and science (medicine) of herbal knowledge. "Wort" refers to an herb or plant while "cunning" refers to someone who is skillful, wise or professes a degree of crafty artfulness. Since my herbalism is based in the understanding that it is all still a bit mysterious and we should love the mystery, wortcunning was a word that I've long loved. And so the name of the Apothecary came to be!
That is a glimpse of my ever-expanding-contracting world and I look forward to reading other folk's introductions!
All the best,
Alexis
